Mangaluru, Aug 28: Yenepoya Dental College, Mangaluru, observed anti-ragging awareness week from August 12 to 18 in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Dental Council of India (DCI). The initiative aimed to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive academic environment free from any form of ragging.
The awareness week was formally inaugurated on August 12, with a ceremony attended by college dignitaries, including principal Dr Laxmikanth Chatra, vice principal Dr Hasan Sarfaraz, dean Dr Sham S Bhat, nodal officer Dr Sanath Shetty, and convenor Dr Fahad Mohammed. Staff advisors Dr Varsha and Dr Raksha, along with student council members, were also present.









The inaugural session featured addresses from the dignitaries, emphasizing the importance of student safety and the collective responsibility of maintaining a ragging-free campus. Winners of the pre-event competitions were felicitated during the ceremony.
Throughout the week, a series of events were conducted to actively engage students across all years of the BDS programme. Key highlights included: Essay writing competition on the theme 'Say no to ragging – creating a safe campus environment'.
An awareness talk and quiz by Aysha Muhna KM. The session underlined the psychological impact of ragging and the legal frameworks in place to address it, followed by a quiz to reinforce learning.
A thought-provoking elocution competition themed 'Fear to friendship: My experience with ragging' and poster making and reel competitions.
The week-long observance concluded with a collective anti-ragging pledge, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against ragging.
Delivering the vote of thanks, convenor Dr Fahad Mohammed extended heartfelt appreciation to the management, faculty members, and students for their proactive participation and support in making the campaign a resounding success.
