Udupi, Aug 28: The CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital in Udupi is set to inaugurate its new breast cancer screening unit (mammography unit) on Saturday, August 30, at 10 am at the hospital chapel, announced Dr Sushil Jathanna, director of Lombard Memorial Mission Hospital.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Jathanna said that Udupi deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K will inaugurate the new unit. Reverend Ivan D’Soans, treasurer, CSI-KSD, will be the chief guest, while Bharathi Hemachandra, Dr Deepa Rao, and Tanuja Maben will be present as guests of honour.

“The new unit will play a vital role in the early detection and prevention of breast cancer, particularly benefiting women from Udupi and the surrounding coastal and rural areas. This facility marks another milestone in the hospital’s commitment to public health and preventive care,” Dr Jathanna stated.
Highlighting the growing concern, he noted, “Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women. Compared to Western countries, mortality rates from the disease are higher in India. However, timely screening and early detection can help bring this under control. The newly established mammography unit will ensure affordable screening, reduce mortality through early diagnosis, improve treatment outcomes, and create awareness on women’s health and preventable diseases.”
Dr Jathanna emphasized that CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital has always been dedicated to providing affordable and quality healthcare services to the community. “With the launch of this breast cancer screening unit, we strengthen our mission to reach women at risk of breast cancer and reaffirm our commitment to public health and preventive healthcare,” he said.
Hospital PRO Rohi Ratnakar and operations manager Kavya Shetty were also present at the press meet.
