Panaji, Aug 28: In a major breakthrough, the Goa Police on Tuesday night arrested Vishnu Bishnoi (32), a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in connection with the sensational murder of Punjab businessman Sanjeev Verma, popularly known as the ‘Kurta Pajama King’.

Verma, a renowned cloth merchant from Punjab’s Fazilka district, was shot dead on July 7 outside his showroom in Abohar by motorcycle-borne assailants. Soon after the incident, one Aarzoo Bishnoi claimed responsibility through a social media post, declaring that the group had killed Verma for allegedly supporting their rivals.

Acting on a tip-off from Punjab Police, a 20-member special team of the Mapusa sub-division, led by SP Crime Rahul Gupta and supervised by DIG Range Varsha Sharma, launched an operation in Anjuna. The accused was found hiding in a hotel along with six others.

“It was a swift and well-planned operation. Vishnu Bishnoi, wanted in several cases, has been handed over to Punjab Police. His six associates, whose involvement was not established in this case, have been bound over,” SP Rahul Gupta said.

Police sources revealed that Vishnu Bishnoi, a native of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, has at least seven criminal cases registered against him and was on Punjab Police’s most-wanted list.

The arrest marks a significant success in the ongoing crackdown against gangster syndicates operating across state borders.
