Ahmedabad, Aug 29: In a shocking case from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly raping his younger sister twice and burning her with cigarettes after objecting to her consensual relationship.
According to police, the victim, a 22-year-old woman, had been in a relationship with a man from their village for nearly three years. Her brother, a married driver, strongly opposed the relationship and used it to threaten and blackmail her.

The first incident took place on July 13, when the accused’s wife had gone to visit her parents. The accused allegedly threatened his sister with a knife before sexually assaulting her.
The second assault occurred on August 22, when his wife was again away from home. On this occasion, the accused also stubbed a lit cigarette on her thigh, leaving burn injuries.
Shattered by the repeated assaults, the survivor gathered courage and contacted the state women’s helpline, following which a formal complaint was lodged with Bhavnagar police.
Based on her statement, police arrested the accused and carried out medical examinations of both the survivor and the accused. The knife used during the crime and the clothes worn by the accused have also been seized.
Police said further investigations are in progress.
