Christ King student Shagun S Verma selected for international volleyball tournament

Karkala, Sep 3: Shagun S Verma Hegde, a grade 9 student of Christ King English Medium High School, Karkala, has brought laurels to the district by securing a place in the national qualifying team for the upcoming International University volleyball tournament for girls in the under-15 category.

In the tournament conducted by the National School Games Federation, around 200 players participated in the national selection camp conducted in Pune, Maharashtra. From this competitive pool, 23 players made it to the final list. Among them, Shagun stands out as the second-ranked player and the only representative from Karnataka.

Earlier, Shagun S Verma was the only player from Udupi district to qualify for the state-level selection camp. Out of eight participants from Karnataka, she emerged as the sole candidate to secure a berth in the national squad.

The international tournament will be held in Shanglo, China from December 4, to December 13.
