Bangalore: Havoc in Assembly over Uppinangady Speech, Malpe Rave Party

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Feb 7: The issue relating to rave party and alleged sexually explicit behaviour by foreign tourists during ‘Spring Zouk’ three-day festival of folk dances and music organized at St Mary’s Island near Malpe, Udupi, was raised at the state assembly on Monday February 6.

MLAs, U T Khader and Gopal Bhandary, who took up the matter through a call attention motion, wanted the speaker to permit detailed discussions on the issue, considering that the outrageous behaviour of foreigners was being aired on visual media.

Rave Party at Malpe

Chief Minister (CM), D V Sadananda Gowda stressed that there is no scope for obscene behaviour in the public during such festivals, and said that the deputy commissioner had told him there was nothing vulgar at the festival. “Such festivals are being held to promote tourism in coastal Karnataka. Our aim is to utilize tourism potential of the area, “ he clarified. He however, promised to do the needful after getting a report from the deputy commissioner.

It may be recalled that when this issue had been brought to the notice of the CM during his visit to Udupi, he had said it would not be possible to altogether avoid such things where attracting tourists is involved. Union minister, Veerappa Moily, had retorted by commenting that tourism growth should not be allowed at the cost of cultural corruption.

Congress MLA, U T Khader, pointed out that certain persons had tried to create unrest in the society by delivering provocative speeches targetted at minorities during a programme organized at Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district recently.  He also recalled that the policemen also had to wield their canes to control the mob there.

Khader, who raised the topic at the assembly during zero hour, accused the government of trying to frame cases against the members of the minority community, who had held press conference for condemning attempts being made by communal elements for disrupting peace. He wondered how the persons who delivered communally provocative speeches were left untouched. “How can one expect minorities to keep mum, even when baseless charges are levelled against them? I am deeply pained by these developments,” he explained.

Objecting to what Khader said, Jeevaraj of the ruling party wanted Khader to reproduce properly what the concerned leaders had said at the press conference. Angered by this challenge, U T Khader, Gopal Bhandary, and other Congress MLAs let loose their anger against BJP MLAs, and demanded immediate response from the government.

Speaking on behalf of the government, law minister, Sursh Kumar, told the agitated legislators that home minister, R Ashok, was at that time, at the upper house, and therefore, the needful would be done once the minister returns to the assembly.

The same issue was also raised by U T Khader by way of call attention motion. In that case too, the government promised to provide response from the home minister.

There are other ways to promote tourism Mr. Gowda. Please get the island cleaned first as there are thorny bushes and unwanted weeds growing. there are no proper wash rooms neither is there a decent restaurnat. Infact when i visited there with my family in Jan 2012 i was sorely disappointed that such a beautiful island has been lying wasted when it could be used for tourism purposes.
lastly thanks to the Govt of Karnataka they seem to be promoting Karnatake / mangalore with thier Indecent acts so much that no tourists would want to enter into the state..
    Jai Bharath..

I fail to understand how can such an event can promote local tourism to foreigners? Organising a cultural evening is one thing but a full-fledged drugs-drinks-fuelled party is another. Do the police know who supplied drugs and alcohol for so many people? The organisers should be more careful the next time. Our land is not a place for nude parties and drugs.

Officials should bring innovations to develop tourism and earn currency and employment. See how the Kerala govt.promotes tourism when Udipi has more backwater beauty, islands, beachhes, relegious, historical and many more things. it is the time that those sitting in the toursim dept must tour to learn to lure the tourism

All these crooks if allowed to go inside the rave party then definitely they will enjoy more than foreigners. These pseudos want to bring everything under politics. Let us encourage these kind of events so that our tourism gets some kind of recognition.

Agree with Wallter & Santhosh... Point is clear in this blame game (BJP, Congress, JDS.. etc) our city development and tourism is at risk we still fight in the name of religion & culture… After death how does it matter if I am a Hindu, Christian or Muslim? All these incidents concludes that there is no place for a person who is out going, open minded and Shows PDA (Public Display of Affections).

In Karnataka there is only one Goal by Opposition Parties, i.e. “Oppose everything sponsored by BJP Government” and it’s become passion for all of us that “propose everything secretly but oppose anything openly” We can have imported Party Leader in centre but we don’t accept imported culture at state level!!!!!! How funny our country leadership?

Guys if you visit any European country this so common. On the road side u will find friends kissing each other. At Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Milan Linate any Airport in Europe you wil find these westerners Hugging n kissing each other with common consent. But if any one use force, will land in jail. In india they won't do openly but they rape or molest behind close doors. Like Harathal Halappa or Renukacharya episodes......

India is world famous for rape. As per statistics every few minutes a woman is raped in India. Rape of foreign tourists has become almost a day to day affair. Female foeticide has become order of the day. Thousands of young girls are pushed into prostitution every year in Karnataka itself to please Goddess Yellamma in the name of Devadasi or Jogathi tradition. Still we talk about Indian culture, hindu culture and discriminate minorities. We always blame western culture. We never look at our own sad state of affairs. Instead we always pick on minorities. Is it justified???

DRINKING ALCAHOL IN PUB IS ACCEPTABLE TO MANY HERE SIMILARLY THE DANCE PARTY BUT NOW I AM SURE THEY WILL CHANGE AND GO AGAINST THIS. THESE ARE THE FUTURE POLITICIANS...whoes political view is simply based on religion only and no socialist way of thinking at all. we do have sensor board but actively involved in sensoring the write up in social networking sites only (write up anything against the top politicians) but no sensoring while bollywood/tollywood does on and off screen. All i do is make sure i teach my childrens about the culture i follow and they know what to see and what not to do!

I totally agree with Mr. Sathish.
We Indians are a hypocritical society. If someone else gets what we dream everyday - especially sex, we call them immoral s.
All of us have some skeletons in our cupboards.
Let the young people enjoy life!!. Life is short. You live for today.
In China, you can see people copulating in the parks, at public places etc. No one gives a damn!! In fact, India is topping as the most corrupt country. Concentrate to weed out this menace.

This should not be the reason for not promoting tourism. Law and order should be maintained. These foreign tourists behave very strange when they are in India.
