Beltangady: SIT summons 3 accused in Sowjanya case; Uday Jain breaks silence

Beltangady, Sept 3: In a fresh turn in the high-profile Sowjanya case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has summoned three accused individuals for questioning. Among them, Uday Jain appeared today at the Belthangady Police Station, complying with the SIT’s directive.

The accused summoned include Uday Jain, Mallik Jain, and Dheeraj Kella. Notably, none of the trio were implicated during the earlier CBI probe, which had also subjected them to brain mapping tests as part of its investigation.

New complaint by Sowjanya’s mother sparks SIT action

Sources reveal that this sudden move may have been triggered by a fresh complaint filed by Sowjanya’s mother.

Earlier statements from the chief minister and the home minister had clarified that the SIT’s mandate excluded the Sowjanya case, focusing instead on related matters. However, this recent summons suggests a potential shift, possibly in response to the new allegations.

Uday Jain responds to SIT summons

Speaking to the press, Uday Jain said: “I received a call last night asking me to appear today, so I complied. All three accused have been summoned. The Sowjanya family has levelled accusations against us, and the SIT is questioning us accordingly. Based on the CM and Home Minister’s earlier statements, I believed the SIT investigation did not cover the Sowjanya case, but it now seems this summons is linked to the complaint from Sowjanya’s mother.”

He added: “Initially, I was associated with their group, but probably distanced myself after Chinnayya’s arrest. Mahesh Shetty told Sowjanya’s mother that the matter would be resolved, which I also believe.”

“During the CBI probe, we had voluntarily come forward and petitioned the court to investigate us too, stating that we cannot evade the allegations as our families—including mothers and sisters—stand with us. The court accepted our petition and allowed a narco-analysis test,” he said.

“Later, Sowjanya’s father and the CBI counsel tried to brand us as accused, but we secured a stay order from the High Court. Unfortunately, misinformation spread suggesting the stay was to avoid investigation, which is incorrect. We are fully cooperating with the SIT and have no objection to a reinvestigation of the Sowjanya case,” he added.

Reports indicate that a witness recently lodged a complaint with the SIT, which may have prompted this renewed scrutiny of the accused.
