Bengaluru, Sep 4: BJP MLA from RR Nagar, Munirathna, who was facing rape allegations filed by a woman, has been given a clean chit after the police submitted a B report to the court citing lack of evidence.

The woman had lodged a complaint at RMC Yard police station against Munirathna and four of his associates, alleging that they took her to the MLA’s office, stripped her, and sexually assaulted her. She also accused Munirathna of threatening to harm her family. Based on her complaint, police had registered an FIR.

However, during investigation, police stated that no substantial evidence supported the allegations. No traces of sedatives were found in the woman’s body, and neither medical nor other corroborative evidence was available. As a result, the police filed a B report before the special court for people’s representatives, effectively closing the case and providing major relief to the MLA.

Reacting to the development, Munirathna said, “The B report is a victory for truth. Such false cases should not be encouraged.” He alleged that cases against him had increased after political developments in Bengaluru Rural constituency, where Manjunath won and DK Suresh and Kusuma lost. “Nothing is permanent; I have left everything to God,” he added, stating that he would share complete details in a press conference.

Earlier, fearing arrest, Munirathna had sought anticipatory bail from the court. The high court had also extended interim protection. With the filing of the B report, police informed the court that the case could not proceed further due to lack of evidence.

The closure of the case has sparked political discussion, with questions being raised about possible political motives behind the allegations. Munirathna reiterated that the truth had prevailed and assured he would place the full facts before the public.
