Udupi, Sep 6: The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has achieved a remarkable feat by securing the 3rd position in the university category of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF-2025).
With this achievement, MAHE has climbed one spot from its 4th rank last year. The NIRF-2025 ranking list was released by the Union Ministry of Education on Thursday.
This year, more than 14,000 higher education institutions participated in the evaluation. The NIRF rankings assessed universities and institutions under nine categories and eight subject areas. The rankings are based on factors such as teaching, learning and resources, research, professional practices, and graduation outcomes, among others.

MAHE’s performance has placed it among the top three universities, which the institution says reflects its unwavering commitment to excellence in education and research.
Beyond the university category, MAHE has also excelled in other criteria. In the sustainability category, it secured the 5th rank, highlighting its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. In the innovation ranking, it was placed in the 11-50 band this year. In research, MAHE improved its position from 23rd in 2024 to 19th in 2025.
Various MAHE constituent institutions also earned commendable positions. Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Manipal ranked 10th in medical education, while KMC Mangaluru secured the 35th rank. Manipal College of Dental Sciences ranked 5th in dental education, with MCODS Mangaluru ranking 11th. Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) was placed 59th in engineering, while the Manipal School of Architecture and Planning secured the 27th position in architecture. Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences stood 8th in pharmacy, and the T A Pai Management Institute ranked 39th in management.
Chancellor Lt Gen (Retd) M D Venkatesh said that MAHE’s 3rd rank in the NIRF university category underscores the institution’s academic excellence, research, and innovation. He credited this progress to the dedication of faculty, the innovative spirit of students, the institution’s creative approaches, and effective leadership.
Pro-chancellor Dr H S Ballal said that reaching the 3rd rank among universities in the country is a historic milestone for MAHE. He added that the institution’s consistent progress in the rankings reflects its ability to adapt to increasing academic competition and its pursuit of excellence.
