In the judgment delivered on Monday February 6, judge G D Narasimha Murty, also imposed Rs 5,000 each as fine on both the accused, duly adding that they will have to undergo six additional months of imprisonment in case of failure to pay the fine.

Fayaz had been murdered on the night of June 2, 2009 allegedly by Mustafa alias Shariff alias Rauf  from Hosagadde Perne in Puttur taluk, and Faizal from Maindale Navoor in Bantwal taluk. The murdered man and murderers used to work at the Bunder old port dock.

The accused were in the habit of stealing steel items belonging to the railways, and had been jailed in Kannur for six months, after having been caught by the railway police. They believed that Fayaz had tipped off the policemen about their activities. They drew up a plan, invited Fayaz to the platform of railway yard at the goods shed in Bunder, where they crushed his skull with boulders.

A case was filed in Bunder police station about the above murder, and inspector, Tilakchandra, had filed charge sheet after investigating the matter. Second additional public prosecutor, C Venkataramana Swamy, had represented the prosecution.

Fine of Rs 5000 for what.... really sounds funny. I hope this decision is taken by the right authorities and not by school teachers. These culprits should have been given a punishment of life sentence.

It is very sad and unfortunate to hear such news. Court has done a good job, even with stinking corruption all around, there is some hope!!
