Udupi, Sept 7: In a heartbreaking road mishap late on Saturday night, a motorcycle skidded off a sharp bend along the steep Manipal–Alevur stretch, killing the pillion rider on the spot and leaving the rider critically injured.

The deceased has been identified as Mohan (33), a resident of Katapady. The bike rider, Pradeep, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

According to initial reports, the duo was returning from Manipal towards Kaup when the incident occurred. As they negotiated a downhill curve near Manchi, the two-wheeler reportedly lost control and skidded violently.

The impact flung Mohan into nearby bushes, where he remained unnoticed throughout the night. Locals believe he died shortly after the crash. His body was discovered only the next morning, around dawn on Sunday.

“This is a blind curve and a steep descent. Accidents have occurred here before,” said a local resident who arrived at the scene after the body was found. “It’s tragic that no one spotted him sooner,” the resident added.

Pradeep, who was thrown onto the roadside, was found in a semi-conscious state and rushed to a nearby hospital. His condition is said to be critical but stable.
