Mangaluru: Embarrassment for MCC as children step in to repair potholes

Mangaluru, Sep 8: In an embarrassing turn of events for the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and local representatives, four young children have taken it upon themselves to fill pothole-ridden roads in the city.

Mangaluru’s roads are in a deplorable condition, riddled with potholes that frequently cause accidents and endanger human lives. Motorists struggle daily to navigate these hazardous stretches, while the MCC and elected officials have seemingly failed to take responsibility for ensuring safer travel conditions.

Over time, there have been numerous instances where potholes were left unattended by the authorities, prompting local citizens, including auto drivers and police personnel, to step in and do the job themselves.

Adding to this growing civic movement, four children from Mangaluru — Mohammed Ayan, Mohammed Aman, and two of their friends — filled a pothole near Bunts Hostel, an act that has brought considerable embarrassment to city officials.

“It’s unfortunate that the MCC continues to ignore its responsibilities, while auto drivers, police officers, and even children are stepping up to do their job,” said Mohammed Ayan. “We have seen many riders lose control and suffer injuries because of these potholes. When accidents happen, no politicians come to help — they simply don’t care. We want them to feel ashamed seeing children like us fixing what they ignore.”

He further added that they plan to fill potholes in other accident-prone areas such as Hampankatta Circle, Nanthoor, and beyond in the coming days.

Mohammed Aman echoed his friend’s sentiments, saying, “We are just doing our duty by filling the potholes and helping save lives. We even put up a banner that read ‘Mangalore Careless Corporation (MCC)’, which many people found both hilarious and thought-provoking.”

The actions of these young children have been widely appreciated by the public and have reignited the debate over the accountability of the Mangaluru City Corporation.

It’s so deplorable to note that school children have to do this road repair work to help Mangalore citizens. It’s known well over that Mangalore city corporation brought thousands of rupees in these last 10 years under “ Smart City “ concept and and in spite of these funds roads conditions are pathetic , drainage systems have collapsed with sewage flowing openly and water supplies to city has been irregular . Question is where the funds have gone and who have benefitted under various scheme's ?
