Tel Aviv,Sep 9: Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed gratitude to India after Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the terrorist attack in Jerusalem on Sunday, which killed five people and injured 12 others.
In a post on X, Netanyahu said, “Thank you Prime Minister @narendramodi for standing with Israel and against the scourge of terror that threatens us all.”
PM Modi condemns attack on Monday, PM Modi strongly condemned the attack on innocent civilians, extended condolences to the victims’ families, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. In his X post, he said, “India condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and stands firm in its policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.”
The terrorists opened fire on passengers after boarding a bus at Ramot Junction in Jerusalem. Five people were killed, and 12 injured, seven of whom were in serious condition.
Security officials identified the attackers as West Bank Palestinians who used a makeshift ‘Carlo’ submachine gun. Both gunmen were shot and neutralised at the scene. The gun is commonly produced in illegal workshops in the West Bank and has been used in previous Palestinian attacks.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid expressed support for Israeli security forces in thwarting terrorism. Far-right lawmakers called for total war against ‘enemy’ Palestinians.
Meanwhile, Hamas praised the attack, calling it a “heroic operation” and a response to Israel’s occupation policies. Following the attack, the IDF said its troops were encircling several Palestinian villages near Ramallah in the West Bank.
