Jewellery workshop burgled in Udupi, gold worth lacs stolen

Udupi, Sep 9: Thieves broke into a jewellery workshop near Chittaranjan Circle, Udupi, on September 8 and made away with valuables worth lacs of rupees.

The incident took place at ‘Vaibhav Refiner’, a gold and silver refining unit located near Chittaranjan Circle. The miscreants allegedly used fake keys to enter the shop and later opened a drawer using duplicate locks. They decamped with around 600 grams of gold bars, gold liquid, and other valuables.

Approximately 680 grams of gold worth Rs 65,96,000, about 200 grams of refined gold valued at Rs 22,00,000 from the shop drawer after unlocking it with some key, around 5 kilograms of refined silver in small bars valued at Rs 6,25,000, and cash amounting to Rs 1,50,000 were stolen. In total, property worth Rs 95,71,000 was taken away.

Police suspect the involvement of former workers of the shop in the theft.

Udupi DySP Prabhu D T and Udupi town police inspector Manjunath visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Further investigation is underway.
