Mangalore, Feb 8: Royal D'Silva of Rosario PU College, Mangalore, won a gold medal in 4 X 100 meter relay held at Ludhiana, Punjab recently. The relay is a prominent national level team event in the under-19 boys category organised by School Games Federation of India.

Royal D’Silva who is pursing his studies in First PUC Arts at Rosario PU College was the only athlete from Mangalore city, along with the athletes of Alva's P U College, Moodbidri, to represent Karnataka at the national level, which has been a passion for Royal who has won many medals at the district and state level.

At the 28th Karnataka State Junior or Senior Championship, 2011 held in October he secured second place in 100 Meters event with a time of 11.5 seconds. In the same meet in the 4X 100 meter relay, he and his team won the second place.

Royal has a marked aptitude also for the foot ball. He was the goal keeper of the college team which won the Independence Cup and also Dakshina Kannada PU level Football Match.

Royal is quite enthused with the achievements in athletics and remembers gratefully the encouragement of his father Lawrence D’Silva and mother Ivy D’Silva from Attavar. Royal acknowledges gratefully Karriyya Rai, PT of Rosario High School who was the first one to spot his talent, and John Lobo with Dinesh Kundar who train him to better achievements.

Royal dreams of achieving a gold medal in Olympics and desires to be an army officer.

    Dear Royal
Congrat's to you and all the other member's of the Team, and I wish you all more success in your future acheivement's. May the good Lord give you strength, wealth and sucess in your life. I am really proud to read a Manglorean shinning like a star. When I was Young I was stuyding in Mandya, my father was a police officer. There was one police constable who was having having a very good Physique with hefty muscles I used to admire his body. He was a very good Discuss and Shotput thrower named L.Lingaiah. There was a inter state sport's meet in Mandya and I was sure he would win first in discuss, when he came back from the meet I asked him what happened in the meet, he told me " Nanu second bande sir, nimma Mangaluru navaru first bandru". Though I felt a bit sad for him, when I heard Mangalorean came first I felt a inner pride in myself. Latter on I came to know that it was Mr. Lokanath Bolar a great man from Mangalore.

Dear Royal D'silva - CONGRATULATIONS for your achievement. I have one suggestion for you. Consentrate in this sprint 100mts and 200mts event. Say in the span of next three years you should aim to be first in the Nationals. Now a days if you are at the top in Nationals you can get good sponsors. Also here in this sprint event it is your indidual performance. No body can stop you if you are good. Wish you all the best ahead. Very few Catholic sprinters have arose from Mangalore. Way back in 1977-78 we had Norbert Saldanha who from ST. Aloysius College had qualified to the Nationals.
