Bengaluru, Sep 13: The Karnataka government has officially fixed cinema ticket prices at a maximum of Rs 200 across the state. The cap, which excludes taxes, will apply to films in all languages at single-screen theatres but will not extend to multiplexes and premium cinemas with 75 or fewer seats.
The order comes under the amended Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 2025, and will take effect once published in the Official Gazette.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce welcomed the move, saying it would make cinema more affordable for audiences and benefit the Kannada film industry. However, the Karnataka Film Exhibitors Federation objected to the exemption granted to multiplexes, calling it biased and unfair to single-screen theatres that also provide premium facilities.
The decision follows a draft notification issued in July inviting public feedback. A similar attempt to regulate ticket prices in 2017 was struck down by the high court.
