Kandhamal, Sep 14: Eight students of a Sevashram school in Salaguda, Kandhamal district, were hospitalised after a shocking prank in which their classmates allegedly poured instant glue into their eyes while they slept.

The victims, studying in Classes 3 to 5, awoke in severe pain to find their eyelids sealed shut. Their screams alerted hostel authorities, who rushed them first to a nearby hospital and later to the district hospital in Phulbani for specialised treatment.

Doctors said the adhesive caused significant eye damage but timely medical care is likely to prevent permanent vision loss. One child has been discharged, while seven remain under observation.

The Kandhamal district administration has suspended headmaster Manoranjan Sahu for negligence and ordered a high-level inquiry. A district child welfare officer visited the hospital, and officials have assured strict action against those responsible for the incident.
