Bengaluru, Sep 15: The 50 percent rebate on fines for pending traffic violation cases recorded through e-challans has received an overwhelming response, resulting in the collection of Rs 106 crore within 22 days. A total of 37,86,123 cases were settled under this scheme.
The rebate scheme, which allowed violators to pay fines at a 50 percent discount, was implemented from August 23 to September 12, providing an opportunity for citizens to clear their pending traffic violation dues.

The traffic police introduced this initiative to make it easier for citizens to pay fines and to reduce violations on the roads. On the final day of the scheme, long queues were seen at traffic management centers as people rushed to settle their dues.
The scheme witnessed remarkable collections throughout its duration. Officials stated that this is the first time such a massive amount has been collected in a single scheme, which also indicates growing public awareness about road safety.
