Puttur, Feb 8: DCIB police have solved the murder case of Khateejamma, wife of Abbas from Tannirpantha village near Uppinangady.
The body of Khateejamma (28) had been found stuffed into a drain under the state highway between Gundya and Subrahmanya at Kombaru village on Tuesday January 31. The police have determined that Khateejamma was murdered on Monday January 9 before her body was tossed into the drain. The body was identified that of Khatheejamma after examination of the skull as she had dental problems for which she had sought treatment.
“Khatheejamma’s sister-in-law Afsana, her brother Aziz and sister Aseeda have been taken into custody in this connection,” SP Abhishek Goyal told reporters in a press conference held in his office on Wednesday February 8. Afsana is the wife of Issac, Khateejamma’s brother. Aseeda is her elder sister.
He explained that Aziz had confessed that he had wanted to steal the gold jewelry that belongs to Khatheejamma.
“Alongwith his two sisters Aseeda (20) (mother of 5-year-old Mohammed Shameeja and 7-month-old Fathima Shahina) and Afsana (19) (mother of 6-month-old Adil), he had come to Khateejamma’s house on January 9, 2012. At that time, Aziz opened the cupboard in a bid to steal the gold jewelry. Seeing this, Khateejamma screamed and Aziz asphyxiated her by clamping her mouth shut and she died from suffocation. Later, the murderers tied up the hands of Khathijamma’s dead body and moved it in an Omni car. Aziz left it in a drain near Subrahmanya- Gundya road after dropping his sisters home,” said Goyal.
He informed reporters that the police could solve the case as, during initial days of the incident, they had gathered information about the Omni car that had come to Khateeja’s house. That car belongs Aziz. There are already two theft cases registered against him at Sullia police station and he was absconding without appearing before the court of law.
He was in Sharjah for five years and came to India four months ago and was in dire need of money to go back to Sharjah. On Tuesday February 7, he was interrogated by the police near Ashiwini Hotel, Patrao Circle in Puttur, and he admitted that he killed Khatheejamma with the help of his two sisters. Hence, the police have considered Aseeda and Afsana as direct culprits. Fathima Shahina, 7-month-old daughter of Aseeda and Adil, the 6-month-old son of Afsana will be allowed to be with their mother due to their young age.
On Wednesday, police produced the trio before the court and the court took possession of Aseeda and Asaana while handing over Aziz to police custody.
DCIB inspector Vinay S Nayak, staff members Sanjiva Purusha, Chandra Adur, Uday Rai, Vijay Suvarna, Palanivelu, Tharanath S, Iqbal, Devaiah, Shantha Shetty, and Vijeshwaran who successfully solved the case, were awarded Rs 2,500 each by the department.
