Kaup police arrest Garuda gang member absconding for 7 months in Chikkamagaluru

Kaup, Sep 20: Kaup police have arrested a member of the Garuda gang in Chikkamagaluru who had been absconding for the past seven months without appearing before the Udupi second additional district and sessions court for trial.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohammed Asif (35), a resident of Muslim Keri, Kundapur.

Several cases have been registered against him at Kaup police station. Since February 2025, he had failed to appear before the court for trial and was not present at the address he had provided, remaining in hiding.

Apart from Kaup police station, four cases have been registered against him in Gangolli station, two cases each in Byndoor, Kankanady (Mangaluru), and Uppinangady stations.

On September 18, Kaup police personnel Mohammed Rafiq, Mohan Chandra, and Ganesh Shetty traced and arrested Asif at Gauri Kaluve in Chikkamagaluru city.

The accused was produced before the judge of the Udupi second additional district and sessions court, which remanded him to judicial custody till October 16. As per the court’s order, he has been shifted to Hiriyadka district prison.
