Mangaluru, Sep 21: The twentieth graduation ceremony of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, was held on September 20 in the Kalam Auditorium of the college in two sessions. The ceremony witnessed the awarding of graduation certificates by the institution to the Class of 2025 comprising 580 undergraduates (BE) and four PhD graduates.
Dr Suresh H Jangamshetti, vice chancellor, Haveri University, and Prof K N S Acharya, pro vice chancellor, GITAM Deemed to be University, Bengaluru campus, graced the occasion as chief guests and presented the degree certificates to the graduands. Lyvia Cardoza, associate director – WNS Analytics, and Anup D’Silva, director and shareholder, Techno Links Global FZ LLC, were the guests of honour. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore and president of SJEC, presided over the ceremony.

































Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC, welcomed the graduands from the Class of 2025, staff, parents and dignitaries. Dr K Jyothi, professor and dean–student welfare, introduced the chief guest and guest of honour in the morning session, while Dr Sudheer M, professor and dean academics, introduced them in the evening session.
Lyvia Cardoza, guest of honour, advised the graduands to embrace challenges, celebrate victories and stay curious about the world unfolding before them. She also urged them to learn, unlearn and relearn in order to keep growing.
Anup D’Silva spoke about industrial revolution 4.0 and how manufacturing has evolved in recent years. He stressed the need to adapt or risk being left behind, and urged individuals to develop adaptability, creativity and readiness for change. He concluded by saying that while technology will keep changing, curiosity should remain bold.
Dr Suresh H Jangamshetti congratulated the graduates and advised them not to compromise on values or take shortcuts to success. He praised the discipline at the college and urged graduates to serve poorer communities and work on innovative projects to improve lives.
Prof K N S Acharya congratulated the graduates and expressed concern about AI taking over aspects of life. He said teachers and students have distinct roles but should collaborate to co-create projects and ideas. He advised graduates to carry courage, curiosity and openness as pathways for lifelong learning.
Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, administered the graduation oath. Charis Pinto from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sharon Tyana Menezes from the Department of Intelligent Computing and Business Systems, Havala P N from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Sinchana K C from the Department of Mechanical Engineering were the valedictorians from the Class of 2025 and shared their reflections on the transformative journey of education, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to shaping them.
Scholastic achievers, including rank holders and sports achievers, were recognized and awarded by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha. Felicitations were extended to the chief guests and guests of honour by the bishop as a token of respect and gratitude.
Delivering the presidential address, the bishop advised graduates to create a stress-free environment around them and to never stop learning. He appreciated the values displayed by the graduates during the event and wished them success in life. He encouraged them to dream big and always stay connected to their alma mater.
Fr Kenneth R Crasta, assistant director, Dr Purushothama Chippar, vice principal, various deans and HODs, Supriya Salian and Reshma K J, co-convenors, were also present. Dr Subramanya K, convenor of the event, delivered the vote of thanks. Lauline D’Souza, Franco Menezes, Joel D’Mello and Himani Kishan Raj compered the programme.
