Father Muller Medical College hosts AXIS spine trauma CME and workshop

Mangaluru, Sep 22: The department of orthopaedics, Father Muller Medical College, successfully organized the AXIS spine trauma CME and workshop on September 13 at the Decennial Hall. The event served as a platform for eminent faculty and enthusiastic postgraduate trainees to share knowledge and engage in hands-on training in the management of spine trauma.

The academic sessions began with a series of insightful lectures by distinguished spine surgeons from Mangalore and Manipal. These talks covered a wide spectrum of topics on spine trauma, combining theoretical depth with practical insights, thereby benefiting both postgraduate students and practicing clinicians.

The formal inaugural ceremony was held, presided over by Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, in the esteemed presence of Dr Michael Santhumayor, Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, Fr William D’Souza, and Dr Anthony Sylvan D’Souza. The event was organized under the leadership of Dr Mrinal Shetty, head of the department of orthopaedics, as organizing chairman, with Dr Daivik Shetty, assistant professor, spine surgery unit, as organizing secretary, and Dr Sourabh C, senior resident, as organizing joint secretary.

Following the inaugural, the workshop sessions commenced featuring skill-based, practical training. The sessions included a saw bone instrumentation workshop and a Cadaveric Burr Workshop, offering participants valuable exposure to surgical techniques and instrumentation. These hands-on experiences significantly enriched their practical understanding of spine trauma management.

The CME and workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation, with around 80 postgraduate students in orthopaedics from various institutions, alongside 20 faculty members and staff from the department. The blend of academic lectures and practical workshops created an interactive and engaging learning atmosphere.

The AXIS spine trauma CME and workshop concluded on a high note, fulfilling its objectives of academic excellence and practical skill development.
