Veteran educator & mother of MLA Suresh Kumar passes away at 96

Bengaluru, Sept 24: P Susheelamma (96), a revered retired headmistress and mother of MLA S Suresh Kumar, passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday. She was a long-time resident of Basaveshwaranagar, Bengaluru.

She is survived by her son, legislator S Suresh Kumar, and daughter-in-law, well-known journalist K H Savithri.

Originally from Harihara in Davanagere district, Susheelamma had an illustrious career in education spanning 35 years. She served most of her tenure at the Srirampura Government School, Bengaluru, and later retired as headmistress of the Government School in Goraguntepalya, Bengaluru.

Former students paid heartfelt tributes, recalling her as a compassionate and committed teacher. “She was more than a teacher—she was a second mother to many. She would serve home-cooked meals to underprivileged students and even offered financial aid to ensure their education continued,” remembered one former student.

In accordance with her final wishes, her eyes were donated to Narayana Nethralaya, Bengaluru, and her body was donated to M S Ramaiah Hospital, Bengaluru for medical research and education.
