Udupi, Feb 10: The youth Congress of Udupi and Kaup on Friday February 10 organized a religious ceremony to 'cleanse' St Mary’s Island, Malpe, where a controversial rave party was held during 'Spring Zouk' international festival recently. Vedic rituals related to cleansing were performed at the venue.
Addressing the gathering, Udupi block Congress president Pramod Madhwaraj said that the undivided Dakshina Kannada district is believed to be a land that emerged out of the earth when ancient sage Parashuram hit an axe on the ground. It’s due to the sanctity of undivided Dakshina Kannada district that no natural calamities like Tsunami had occurred so far.
"The obscene dances held at St Mary's Island have desecrated the soil. Hence it has been cleansed with Vedic rituals. Such an act should not be repeated in the future. It is unfortunate that the state administration is following the example of Kerala and Goa in promoting tourism," he said.
Sources said that beer bottles, contraceptives, syringes were found during the cleaning drive.
Udupi-Chikmagalur Youth Congress president Nikhil Umesh Gowda, Congress women's wing president Veronica Cornelio, ZP former president Sarasu Bangera, Sulochana Damodar, Yatish Karkera, Abdul Aziz Hejmady, Sunil Bangera, Navinchandra Shetty, Kirti Shetty and others were present.
