Byndoor, Sep 29: In a swift operation, the police arrested a woman who allegedly stole a gold chain worth Rs 2.5 lac from a devotee at Sri Mookambika Temple here on the night of September 26.
The accused has been identified as Yadava Durgamma from Rangareddy district of Telangana. Within 24 hours of the incident, the police apprehended her, earning public appreciation for their prompt action.
Pilgrim Devipriya had lodged a complaint at Kollur police station, stating that her bag containing a gold chain weighing 3 sovereigns (approximately 24 grams), valued at Rs 2.5 lac, had been stolen during the temple visit.

Acting swiftly, the police tracked down the accused using CCTV footage and technical support. The stolen jewellery was recovered and returned to the rightful owner, while the accused was produced before the court.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of PSI H D Kulkarni and circle inspector Nilesh Chauhan, led by PSI Vinay M Kurlahalli, with the support of PSI Sudharani and the police team.
