Kasargod, Oct 1: A tragic incident came to light on Tuesday evening when DYFI leader and young advocate Ranjitha Kumari (30) ended her life by hanging herself in her office at Batheri, Kumble.

According to police, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside her office. Family members, who tried calling her since evening but got no response, went to her office and found the door bolted from inside. They alerted the police, who broke open the door and discovered her hanging.

Ranjitha was a prominent DYFI leader in Kumble, serving as president of the women’s association area committee, DYFI block unit treasurer, and president of the Vanitha Seva Sahakari Sangha. She was also regarded as a strong and promising CPI(M) leader from the region.

Police said a note was found near the body, which has been taken into their possession. Her death has left party workers and associates shocked.

Ranjitha’s brother, a CPI(M) activist and autorickshaw driver, Ajith, had died in a mishap a few years ago. She is survived by her husband and child.

The body has been kept at the mortuary of Kumble Seva Sahakari Hospital.
