St Michael’s Konkani Community bids adieu to Fr Denis Saldanha, welcomes Fr Edwin Monis

Sharjah, Oct 1: The St Michael’s Konkani Community bid farewell to their spiritual director, Fr Denis Saldanha, after his three-and-a-half-year tenure marked by unwavering support, insightful guidance, and dedicated service that left a lasting impact on the Konkani community of Sharjah.

Since June 15, 2022, Fr Denis had been offering wholehearted spiritual direction to the Konkani community in Sharjah. His noble character, selfless service, sincere dedication, and meaningful guidance left a strong impression on parishioners. His spiritual counsel, immense commitment, and devotion to his daily duties made him an exemplary figure.

A thanksgiving programme for Fr Denis was held after the Konkani Mass on September 21. Konkani community coordinator Alwyn Coutinho presented the ‘maanpatr’, while parish priest Fr Savarimuthu honoured him with a shawl and bouquet, expressing gratitude for his service. The parish priest described Fr Denis as a friendly person, very particular and punctual in liturgical work.

A spiritual bouquet was presented by Fr Edwin Monis, while assistant coordinator Deepak presented a fruit basket. Members of the Goan Core Committee offered flower bouquets as tokens of love and gratitude. Various groups rendering service in the community also presented floral bouquets in recognition of his contributions. Ushers, altar servers, eucharistic ministers, choir members, and KPG members each offered a bouquet, highlighting the strong bond between Fr Denis and the community.

The programme included a musical interlude by the Goan community and a video presentation. Fr Denis addressed the gathering with his farewell message, thanking the Konkani community for their support in carrying out his mission. The programme was compered by Donald Noronha.

Fr Denis was appreciated for his tireless efforts in organising both spiritual and social activities, and for his guidance in matters concerning the Konkani community at St Michael’s Parish. Under his leadership, the community flourished, experiencing remarkable spiritual growth and clarity of direction.

St Michael’s Konkani Community also welcomed their new spiritual director, Fr Edwin Monis. Parish priest Fr Savarimuthu extended a warm welcome to him as the new assistant parish priest and spiritual director of the Konkani community. The parishioners expressed hope that under his leadership, the community would continue to receive spiritual guidance and blessings.
