Kolkata, Oct 1: Police probing the murder of Bihar businessman Suresh Yadav have uncovered that he owned a flat in Howrah and frequently visited Bengal, especially during Durga Puja. Investigators are exploring whether his alleged criminal background played a role in his killing.

Suresh Yadav, originally from Gopalganj in Bihar, maintained close ties in Howrah, a city near Kolkata, where he had purchased a flat around a decade ago. He was known to visit the region annually for Durga Puja and other occasions, often staying for several days.

Authorities revealed that Yadav had multiple criminal cases registered against him in Bihar and had spent seven years in jail. According to Howrah Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Tripathi, Yadav had longstanding enmities with criminal gangs in Bihar and had previously survived an assassination attempt. The police are investigating whether recent disputes related to his business triggered the fatal attack.

On the night of Ashtami, during the Durga Puja festivities, Yadav was shot dead by assailants on a public road in the Banabihari Basu Lane area of Howrah. Eyewitnesses reported that a group of youths arrived on a bike around 9:30 PM, fired multiple shots, and then fled. The incident caused panic among local residents.

Emergency responders rushed Yadav to Howrah District Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival. Police have collected CCTV footage from the scene and are questioning locals to identify the attackers and establish a motive behind the brazen killing. Meanwhile, investigators are also interviewing Yadav’s family members in Bihar as part of the ongoing probe.
