Hyderabad, Oct 2: In a chilling incident that has shocked the city, the body of seven-year-old Humeyni Sumaiya was discovered inside a rooftop water tank at her grandmother’s residence on Wednesday afternoon. The girl had been reported missing since Tuesday evening.

According to police, the child’s hands were tied behind her back, strongly indicating that she was unable to enter the tank on her own, raising immediate suspicions of murder.

Humeyni had been visiting her grandmother along with her parents, Mohammad Azeem and Shabana Begum. When she did not return on Tuesday evening, her family lodged a missing complaint with local authorities. An overnight search involving police teams, investigators, and neighbours failed to locate her.

The grim discovery was made by her mother, who returned for a final check at the grandmother’s house. The lifeless body was found floating inside the water tank, prompting the police to initiate a full-scale investigation.

“We are investigating all angles, including any possible family disputes,” said Police Inspector Anjaneyulu. “This is a definite case of murder. The case has now been reclassified from missing to homicide.”

Forensic teams have visited the scene, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. The police are treating the matter as a potential homicide and have urged anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation.

The incident has left residents in shock, highlighting concerns over child safety even within homes.
