Bantwal, Oct 3: In a remarkable display of talent and determination, Yashaswi, a young chess prodigy from Kudumanu in Kedila village, Bantwal taluk, has clinched three medals at the Asian Deaf Chess Championship held recently in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, making her hometown and the nation proud.

The daughter of Timmapppa Moolya and Yashodha, Yashaswi struck gold as part of the Indian contingent in the Asian Deaf Rapid Team Chess Championship. She followed it up with two silver medals, finishing runner-up in the fiercely contested Blitz and Classical Individual Chess categories.

The championship, held from September 21 to 30, saw the continent’s best deaf chess players battling it out over the board in an intense, high-level competition.

Speaking about her journey, those close to Yashaswi recall her early interest in the game during high school, when she first began representing India in international competitions. Her consistency and mental resilience have stood out ever since.

Currently pursuing her second year of MCA at Srinivas College of Technology, Valachil, Yashaswi previously completed her BSc degree while continuing to participate in major chess events, balancing academics and sport with equal flair.

Her recent success has not only brought accolades to her family and college but has also inspired many in the sporting and deaf communities. “She has shown that barriers can be broken with focus and self-belief,” said a family friend.

With three international medals now to her name, Yashaswi’s rising trajectory in the world of deaf chess is set to inspire a new generation of young talents from coastal Karnataka and beyond.
