Mangalore, Feb 11: Members of Pravasi Sangam, an organisation for overseas affairs and returnees based in Kerala, have announced a fast in protest against discrepancies in disbursing compensation to kin of 2010 Mangalore air crash victims.

The protest will be held on Wednesday February 15 from 10 am to 4 pm in front of Mangalore Air India Office, informed P K Abdulla, central vice-president of Pravasi Sangam at a press conference held here on Saturday February 11.

He said that the insurance authorities under Air India had failed to properly assess the amount of compensation deserved by the victims of the Mangalore air crash as per the provisions of insurance act, and hence the agitation was necessary.

Though the protest held in March had made a little impact, there is still ambiguity in distribution of compensation, he said, and complained that authorities had been biased in disburing the amount.

"Also, the central government and Air India have been bargaining with hapless dependents to reduce compensation amount," he said.

The scheduled fast will be inaugurated by E P Jayarajan, MLA (CPI (M) central committee member). K V Abdul Khader, MLA, general secretary, Kerala Pravasi Sangham Central Committee, K Kunhiraman, MLA, among others will take part. As many as 200 volunteers will be present during the agitation, he said.

Basheer Kallingal, K V Ganesh among others were present at the press meet.

Dear all.I lost my family member and its quite sad and still recovering from it. Meanwhile my family is divided over the share of compensation from insurance company. When he was here with us no one wanted him and treated him like a shit. Now everybody comes for his Money .I rather have my brother than to have this God DAMN Insurance money which has brought so much pain and grief to my family.People stop being greedy,Instead pray for the soul and God will pay us in some other way.

KT, could be what you are saying is right but same time the amount given could not be sufficient in today's time to compensate the bread earning persons income which he could have earned during his life span. I don't think fighting for this cause is a mistake. We never know the amount granted is really justifiable as we don't go for details before boarding the flight if it crashes like in personal insurance policies.
