Kejriwal shuts door on Congress alliance for 2027, promises new politics for Goa

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Oct 4: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday firmly ruled out any alliance with the Congress for the upcoming 2027 Goa Assembly elections, declaring that the grand old party has repeatedly betrayed the people of the state.

“There will be no alliance with the Congress under any circumstances,” Kejriwal told reporters, addressing speculation that some of AAP’s local leaders were open to a tie-up. He was speaking at the inauguration of AAP’s new party office in Mayem, about 16 km from the state capital.

“Congress Betrayed Goa, Supplied MLAs to BJP”

Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of being a “wholesale supplier of MLAs to the BJP.”

“Can the Congress guarantee that none of their MLAs will defect to the BJP again? Of course not,” he said. “From 2017 to 2019, 13 Congress MLAs joined the BJP. In 2022, 10 more followed. They’ve let down the people of Goa time and again.”

He warned that an AAP-Congress alliance would ultimately serve the BJP’s interests:

“Joining hands with Congress is like indirectly handing over power to the BJP. We will not be party to that.”

"Time to End Rule by 13–14 Political Families"

Kejriwal also promised to break the grip of dynastic politics in Goa, which he claimed has been dominated by 13–14 political families alternating between BJP and Congress.

“This is a rotten system that benefits a select few and keeps real power away from the people. These families jump from one party to another to stay in power and loot Goa,” he said, adding that many of them “stash wealth in Swiss banks” while the people suffer.

A Vision for ‘People-Led Governance’

Promoting AAP’s governance model, Kejriwal pledged to give Goans direct control over key decisions, including how land and natural resources are used.

“We will give people the power to decide which development projects are needed. Not politicians. This will be a new era of transparent, people-centric governance.”

AAP’s Stand Ahead of 2027

With this declaration, AAP has made its electoral position clear: no alliance with Congress, no compromise with BJP, and a promise to bring fresh leadership to Goan politics.

Kejriwal's remarks are expected to set the tone for AAP’s campaign strategy, which will likely focus on ending defection politics and dismantling the entrenched political class that has ruled Goa for decades.
