Amit Shah confident Bihar will back development again

New Delhi, Nov 6: Following the Election Commission of India’s announcement of the Bihar Assembly election schedule, Union home minister Amit Shah extended his congratulations to the state's electorate and expressed confidence that voters would once again favour development-driven governance. The elections, set to be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting on November 14, mark a significant political event in the state’s calendar.

Taking to social media platform X, Shah described the election as a “grand festival of democracy” and credited the NDA government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, for transforming Bihar from the days of "Jungle Raj" to a state marked by improved infrastructure, healthcare, education, and welfare schemes for the poor. He asserted his belief that the people of Bihar would choose the path of development again in the upcoming polls.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, joined by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, referred to the Bihar elections as the “mother of all elections,” assuring voters of a smooth, peaceful, and exemplary electoral process. A key highlight of the 2025 elections is the use of an updated voter list following a Special Intensive Revision—conducted after 22 years—which now includes 7.43 crore electors, among them 14 lakh first-time voters.

The CEC confirmed that the updated electoral rolls have been shared with political parties and clarified that corrections to the voter list can still be requested up to 10 days before candidates file their nomination papers.

In addition to the Bihar polls, the ECI announced bye-elections in eight Assembly constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Telangana, Punjab, Mizoram, and Odisha, to be held on November 11, with results also set for November 14.
