Mangaluru, Oct 6: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, observed Gandhi Jayanti with great reverence and enthusiasm, in line with the nationwide initiative ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ campaign 2025.
The day began with a special morning assembly conducted by the students. It highlighted the values and principles of Mahatma Gandhiji through an enlightening significance, inspiring quotes by the Mahatma and melodious patriotic songs. Students reflected on Gandhiji’s vision of truth, non-violence, and cleanliness as a way of life.
As part of the campaign, an oath-taking ceremony on cleanliness was held, where staff and students pledged to maintain personal hygiene, keep their surroundings clean, and contribute to building a cleaner and greener nation.
















Principal Sr Melissa reiterated the thought “Truth is the end, Non-violence is the means” and encouraged students to be truthful and to follow Gandhiji’s path of non-violence. She urged them to practice cleanliness not only with the surroundings, but to focus more on purity of mind and soul.
This was followed by Shramadhan, where students actively participated in cleaning the school premises and nearby surroundings. This activity instilled in them a sense of dignity of labour and responsibility towards the environment.
Adding a creative dimension to the celebration, a selfie corner was set up with natural things, where students and teachers captured moments with slogans and placards promoting cleanliness. To spread the message further, teachers formed a human chain and recited inspiring slogans, echoing the call for a cleaner and greener India.
The day concluded on a positive note, reminding everyone that ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’ and that each individual plays a vital role in realising Gandhiji’s dream of a pure and progressive nation.
