Bicholim, Oct 6: A 47-year-old man was quickly taken into custody early Sunday morning following the alleged sexual assault of a 7-year-old girl in Bicholim taluka. The swift and decisive action by the Bicholim Police led to the suspect's arrest just hours after the crime was reported.

Police reports indicate the accused, identified as Satyawan Harishchandra Gaonkar, a resident of Velguem, allegedly lured the minor from her home on the night of October 4th, promising to buy her fast food. Using his white Swift car, he drove her between 9:30 PM and 11:00 PM. On the return journey, he reportedly stopped in a secluded spot, where the assault occurred.

The victim's mother filed a complaint detailing the inappropriate touching, tearing of her daughter's clothing, and forcible acts that constitute rape under Indian law.

The Bicholim Police immediately registered an FIR (Crime No. 132/2025) under multiple sections of the law, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

A dedicated police team, spearheaded by PI Vijay Rane and including PSI Jay Prakash Jankar, successfully apprehended Gaonkar at 4:34 AM on October 5th. The white Swift car used in the commission of the crime has also been recovered. The operation was conducted under the supervision of SDPO Bicholim Sridevi BV, IPS, with overall guidance from North Goa SP Rahul Gupta, IPS.

Following the arrest, the victim was immediately taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for a medical examination. LPSI Sonali Harmalkar is currently investigating the case.
