Mysuru, Oct 7: Apostolic nuncio to India and Nepal Dr Leopoldo Girelli, during the installation of Dr Francis Serrao SJ as bishop of the Diocese of Mysore, announced Dr Duming Dias, bishop of the Diocese of Karwar, as the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Shimoga with immediate effect.
He was appointed bishop of the diocese of Karwar on January 13, 2024, and his episcopal consecration and installation took place on April 9, 2024.
Bishop Duming Dias was born on September 3, 1969, at Honnavar to Ambrose and Marceline Dias. He obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St Peter's Pontifical Seminary, Bengaluru, and a bachelor's degree in theology from St Joseph's Seminary, Mangaluru, affiliated to Urbaniana University, Rome. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Shimoga on May 6, 1997.

Academically, he holds a BA from Bangalore University (1987–1990), an MA in English from Bangalore University (1990–1992), a BEd from Kuvempu University, Shivamogga (1992–1993), an MEd from KSOU, Mysuru (1999–2001), and an MBA in business administration from KSOU, Mysuru (2009–2011).
