Mangalore: CM Lauds Contributions of Billavas During Centenary Celebration

Mangalore, Feb12: “A fund of rupees 1,000 crores will be specially allotted in the next budget for the upliftment of the backward communities in the state. The brand name should be washed away as everyone has the right to live equally in the society.
A park portraying the life of Koti-Chennaya will also be built in association with the Tourism Department soon, promised DV Sadananda Gowda during the centenary celebration of Akhila Bharath Billavara Union held at Town Hall on 12 February 2012.
I am grateful to this community for bringing me up to this state and am here today to thank for your support, the Chief Minister said speaking on the occasion. Billava Samaj has done a lot of good works to the society especially building of Gokarnatheshwar Temple which has become a popular worship center and also attracted tourists. It’s a precious gift of Billava samaja to the state, he said.
The contributions done to society in the filed of education, business and also politics is innumerable. Some of the development programmes introduced by Bangarappa, who was then the Chief Minister, are still carried on. Contributions of Janardhana Poojary to the banking sector are also worth mentioning, noted DVS Gowda as they too were the part of Billavara Samaja.
He promised an amount of 2 crores to be sanctioned for the boys and girls hostel to be built by the Billava Union at a cost of 5 crores. Symbolic corner stone laying ceremony was held on the occasion.
Naveenchandra D Suvarna, president, Akhila Bharatha Billava Union in his presidential address, mentioned the problems and the progress faced by the community over the years. He requested a good sum of money for the development of Koti-chennaya theme Park. The chief minister later in his speech agreed to support this venture.
Former minister R L Jalappa released a special edition of ‘Brahmashree Guruvani’ during the occasion. Deputy speaker of Legislative Assembly N Yogish Bhat, AICC secretary Vinay Kumar Sorake, Sagar MLA Belur Gopalkrishna, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary , President of Karnataka Pradesha Arya Ediga Sangha J P Narayana Swami, President of Billava Jaagrithi Balaga Suresh Poojary were among the present at the dais.
