Udupi, Oct 16: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) proudly presented Deepa Sanjeevini, a vibrant Diwali exhibition showcasing the talents of rural women entrepreneurs. Held at the KMC Lecture Hall Quadrangle in Manipal, the event was organized in collaboration with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) – Sanjeevini, Udupi zilla panchayat, Dyot Foundation (USA), and the Dr Dharmabala Namashivayam Trust (Chennai). The Centre for Economics and Social Networking (CESN) at the Manipal School of Commerce and Economics (MSCE) took the lead in orchestrating the initiative.

The event was inaugurated by Indira S Ballal, philanthropist, along with Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE. The ceremony was graced by Vijaya Kumar, project director, zilla panchayat, Udupi; Dr Vikram Baliga, associate director; Dr Satish Kumar, Manipal School of Commerce and Economics, MAHE; and several MAHE dignitaries. Avinash and Savitha, coordinators of Sanjeevini, zilla panchayat, Udupi, also participated in the occasion.

Deepa Sanjeevini is more than just an exhibition - it is a festival of empowerment, resilience, and light. The initiative celebrates the creativity, skill, and determination of rural women entrepreneurs who have transformed their lives through the art of handmade Diwali crafts. Each product displayed at the exhibition tells a unique story of self-reliance, courage, and transformation, reflecting the power of economic and social empowerment at the grassroots level.

With steadfast support from NRLM – Sanjeevini, zilla panchayat, Udupi, Dyot Foundation (USA), and Dr Dharmabala Namashivayam Trust (Chennai), the initiative has enabled women to discover their inner strength while earning a sustainable livelihood.

Speaking at the event, the dignitaries appreciated the entrepreneurial spirit of these women and commended the collaborative effort of CESN and MSCE in providing them with a platform to showcase their talent and products to a wider audience.

Through Deepa Sanjeevini, the light of Diwali extends beyond lamps and lanterns - it illuminates lives, empowers homes, and strengthens communities. Every handmade product purchased at the exhibition stands as a gesture of solidarity and encouragement, helping rural women gain financial independence and confidence.

During the valedictory programme as a chief guest, Vani and Megha and also Manjunath Pai G, chief warden, MAHE, Raghavendra M K, head, campus safety, MAHE. Subrahmanya Kumar N, assistant director, MSCE MAHE, Hilda Cornelio, assistant manager - admin & operations, office of the president and pro chancellor, MAHE and Jai Vittal, Asare were present.

As MAHE continues to promote inclusive growth and social entrepreneurship, Deepa Sanjeevini shines as a testament to the university’s commitment to community development and women’s empowerment.
