Udupi: Indrali railway station becomes first in Karnataka to offer digital locker facility

Udupi, Oct 16: In a first for Karnataka, Indrali railway station in Udupi has introduced a digital locker facility for train passengers, according to an official release by the Konkan Railway.

The station has been equipped with 15 modern digital lockers, allowing travellers to safely store their luggage for a specific duration, by paying a nominal fee. Passengers alighting at Udupi can now use this facility to deposit their belongings securely, carry on with their work or travel plans, and return later to collect their items.

The move is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and is part of Konkan Railway’s efforts to integrate advanced technology into its services.

Locker charges (including 18% GST):

The digital lockers are available in four different sizes, with charges based on the duration and size of luggage:

  • Small Luggage:

    • 3 hours – Rs 15

    • 6 hours – Rs 30

    • 12 hours – Rs 45

    • 24 hours – Rs 60

  • Medium Luggage:

    • 3 hours – Rs 20

    • 6 hours – Rs 40

    • 12 hours – Rs 60

    • 24 hours – Rs 80

  • Large Luggage:

    • 3 hours – Rs 40

    • 6 hours – Rs 60

    • 12 hours – Rs 90

    • 24 hours – Rs 120

  • Extra-Large Luggage:

    • 3 hours – Rs 60

    • 6 hours – Rs 120

    • 12 hours – Rs 180

    • 24 hours – Rs 240

All charges are inclusive of 18% GST, the railway release confirmed.

This initiative is expected to be especially helpful for tourists and business travellers who often need short-term secure storage while in the city.

Konkan Railway officials noted that this pilot at Indrali station may pave the way for similar facilities at other major stations across the state in the near future.
