Loutolim tragedy: Death toll rises to three, site supervisor arrested

Margao, Oct 19: The death toll in the Vijay Marine Services accident at Loutolim rose to three after another injured worker succumbed to burn injuries at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, on Saturday.

Confirming the development, Maina-Curtorim Police Inspector Arun Desai said that three other critically injured workers continue to receive treatment at GMC, while one worker with a dislocated bone is recovering at the South Goa District Hospital.

Police have arrested site supervisor Raju Boro, a resident of Quelossim and native of Assam, in connection with the incident. A case has been registered under Sections 281, 115, 118, and 106(1) of the BNS 2023.

The deceased workers have been identified as Ser Ali, a resident of Zuarinagar and native of West Bengal, Vinod Deewan, and Santosh Kumar, both from Chhattisgarh.

According to the FIR, Vijay Marine Services allegedly failed to provide adequate protective gear and fire safety measures at the under-construction vessel site, resulting in a sudden fire that left seven workers injured.
