Youth dies after falling into well near Kumble, brother rescued by fire personnel

Kasargod, Oct 20: A youth died after accidentally falling into a well at Narayanamangala near Kumble on October 19 night. His brother, who jumped into the well in an attempt to rescue him, was saved by the fire and rescue personnel.

The deceased has been identified as Vivek Shetty (28) of Narayanamangala.

 

The incident occurred around 9 pm. When Vivek fell into the well, his brother Tejas immediately jumped in to save him but got trapped inside. Despite repeated efforts by family members and locals, they were unable to bring the two out.

Firefighters from Uppala rushed to the spot and managed to rescue both brothers. Vivek was shifted to Kumble hospital, but he could not be saved. His body has been kept at the mortuary of Kasargod General Hospital and will be handed over to relatives after the post-mortem.

Vivek was serving as a senior clerk in the Kasargod Legal Metrology Department. He had secured the government job four years ago under the Ashritha quota and had been attending work regularly in recent times.
