New Delhi, Oct 21: The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received as many as 269 emergency calls on Diwali night, though no major accidents or casualties were reported, an official said on Tuesday.
A senior DFS officer stated that the department was on high alert throughout the festival, with all fire stations and quick response teams strategically deployed across the capital. “We received 269 fire calls till midnight. Fortunately, no major incidents were reported,” the officer said.

Most of the calls were related to minor fires triggered by firecrackers and diyas. The DFS had earlier cancelled all staff leave and conducted thorough checks on vehicles and firefighting equipment to ensure immediate response to emergencies.
The officer added that detailed planning and preventive measures were undertaken well in advance to ensure public safety during the festive season. “The Delhi Fire Services play a crucial role during Diwali in combating fire-related incidents and safeguarding citizens,” he said.
Last year, the department had received over 200 calls on Diwali night, indicating a rise in minor fire incidents this year despite safety advisories.
