Udupi, Oct 23: The Karnataka State Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (KSC-ASI), Udupi city branch, in association with the extra-curricular cell of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, organised a programme on “Road Traffic Accidents and Trauma Awareness” on the occasion of World Trauma Day on October 17.
The event aimed to create awareness among students about the alarming rise in road traffic accidents and the importance of timely trauma care.


Dr K Rajgopal Shenoy, Professor of Surgery, KMC Manipal, and chairman of KSC-ASI, delivered an insightful address on road traffic accidents and trauma awareness, emphasising the need for preventive measures and responsible driving.
Dr Y Sudarshan Rao, consultant surgeon, Udupi, spoke about the adverse effects of reckless driving and the significance of discipline on the road. Dr Suresh Shenoy, orthopaedic surgeon, conducted a live demonstration on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in trauma, highlighting the importance of immediate response in saving lives during emergencies.
The event was graced by Dr Radhakrishna Aithal, CEO, Sode Group of Institutions, Dr Nagaraj Bhat, Dean (Academics) and in-charge principal, and Dr Sudarshan Rao, dean (Quality Assurance), who appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to actively participate in such awareness programmes.
As part of the observance, a Slogan Writing competition on the theme “Road Traffic Accidents” was organised by KSC-ASI to promote creativity and awareness among students. The winners of the competition were felicitated with prizes during the event.
The programme concluded with a message encouraging students to become responsible citizens and advocates of road safety and trauma awareness in society.
