Man marries 2 close friends in same ceremony at Chitradurga, video sparks debate on legality

Daijiworld Media Network - Chitradurga

Chitradurga, Oct 27: In a rare and controversial incident, a 28-year-old man identified as Waseem Sheikh from Chitradurga reportedly married two of his close friends on the same day, at the same wedding venue in Horapete near Chitradurga.

Waseem Sheikh, aged 25, tied the knot with Shifa Sheikh and Jannat Makhandar in a ceremony held on October 16. The wedding video has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread debate about the legality of such a union.

Both brides were seen wearing identical attire, and the ceremony was reportedly held with the consent of all families involved. The video shows the trio happily welcoming guests and celebrating together. According to relatives, the three had been close friends for several years, and as their bond deepened over time, they decided to live together and formalize their relationship through marriage.

Under Indian law—particularly the Hindu Marriage Act and the Special Marriage Act—polygamy is prohibited for most communities, meaning such a union does not hold formal legal recognition. A similar incident was reported in Telangana in March 2025, where a man married two women in a single ceremony, though no legal action was taken.

As this latest event spreads across social media, debates have erupted over whether such marriages should be allowed. While some people have expressed support, calling it a personal choice, others have criticised it, questioning the social and moral implications.

“What message are we sending to the younger generation? What made these women and their parents agree to this? Why did they choose to share one husband?” many users commented online.

Some, taking a humorous tone, remarked, “While most men struggle to find one bride, you’ve managed to marry two at once—congratulations!”

Despite its questionable legal standing, the Chitradurga wedding has become the talk of the state, stirring discussions on love, choice, and law.

The Divine Sixth Commandment states "You shall not commit adultery," emphasizing the importance of fidelity in marriage and the sanctity of the marital bond. //// What that God says, we want marry many, produce many and rule the world so we will create our own religion / religious book, our own angel will guide us ? If one enjoys heaven here how can God give heaven Afterlife? //// Almost all know God given body animating soul is Eternal! And God created humans in Divine Image or All are gods! and why people want to become Demons of Kama or lust, pride, anger, greed, attachments and land in hellish situation or without repentance even in hell, don't understand!? Anyway these things bound to happen before God's final testing to separate good and not that good or bad before the coming Era of 1000 years of Peace written in holy scriptures. So self control which is Divine is must and seek protection of Divine angels not to fall into sin or if not finally to land in hell without repentance.

How one heart could be given to two people at the same time?????…..Isn’t this injustice and inappropriate!?!?!?!?!?……Marry one person for life and whatever the consequences after marriage it’s god’s will so accept it to be fair to other person and your children. Aren’t you accepting if your child has some issues?!?!?!?…..

nothing wrong, in management terminology, this is known as "Redundancy", "hot standby", " Business Continuity Planning", "Plan B", "Disaster Recovery / Contingency Plan", "24/7/365" etc. etc. Wasim can enjoy married life all 365 days without any break ... If Bride A is not at hand, he can count on Bride B ... Additionally he has reduced ceremony costs also ... otherwise he would have to bear marriage costs twice over ... very smart boy Wasim ... Wishing him Happy Married Lives ...
