Udupi, Feb 15: The condolence meet on the sudden demise of state minister Dr D V Acharya was held at Ammanni Ramani Hall, here on Wednesday February 15 morning.

Condolences message from dignitaries

L K Advani:

If BJP had come into power in town council, it’s because of the guidance by Dr V S Acharya.  We strongly feel the absence of Dr Acharya in our midst.  He was a role model for everyone in public life and was respected by everyone.  He was persistent in hard work and wanted to be his all time best.  He was influenced by his upheavals in political career.  He was knowledgeable both in medicine, education and politics.  If everyone learns from the ideals Dr Acharya and practices in life, it would indeed be the true respect to him.

CM D V Sadanand Gowda:

His political career is an open book.  He was straightforward and polite in discharging his responsibilities.  His simplicity and mild nature earned him friends even in opposition parties.  He was an educative politician and was convincing to the point.  He never compromised to his ideals.  I was fortunate to have him as my mentor, who guided me in my political career and even after assuming the charge as chief minister.  We have lot to learn from him.  He had the solution to many issues, while Karnataka has lost a son of its soil, a economist in the making.

B S Yeddyurappa:

A memorial has to be laid in memory of Dr Acharya for posterity.  It would be helpful for the new generation to be proud of bygone politician with rare virtues.  We have to learn how to live for the society from the ideals of Dr Acharya.  His support to me in the form of advises and direction during the assembly session was great indeed.  We had to collectively work for the development of our state, disregarding the party differences.  He was elected as town councilor in his age of twenty-eight-years.

Anant Kumar:

He worked as knowledge-chest.  Dr V S Acharya Economic Development and Research Institute had to be set up in Udupi – Manipal.  It would serve the peoples’ representatives to study on administration and development.  Dr Acharya was enthusiastic throughout his life.

Eshwarappa:

If one takes the efforts in reaching the worthy aspects of Dr Acharya it would give him eternal peace.  He is inspiration to youth.

Manipal University vice chancellor Professor H S Ballal:

He was focused on welfare of new generation.  He has never misused his state powers.

Jayaprakash Hegde:

Dr Acharya was respected by opposition parties for his character.  He lived what I preached.  Despite political differences, he would take on individuals.  The state has lost a crusader of good governance.  I have sought his advice on political issues many times.

Moulana U K Kasim Abdul Darimi:

He will ever remain in the memory of general masses.

M Somshekar Bhat:

We will carry on the good work of Dr Acharya in instilling his ideals among the youth.  I have always worked in his assistance.

Deputy Commissioner Dr C T Reju, Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, state energy minister Shobha Karandlaje, veteran journalist M V Kamath, former town councilor U R Sabapati, Shamili Trust chairman G Shankar, Udupi district BJP president Uday Kumar, BJP leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, town councilor Kiran Kumar, Karkala former MLA Sunil Kumar, Ambalapady Janardhan Mahakali temple managing trustee Vijay Ballal, ZP president Katpady Shankar Poojary, state primary and secondary schools education minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, Udupi Mother of Sorrows parish priest Fr Fredrick Mascarenhas, Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Ram Poojary, fisheries marketing Federation president Yashpal Suvarna, Kishore Alva, Sulochana Bhat, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Udupi district JDS president Deviprasad Shetty, Basavaraj Bommai, Ramdas Pai, Shambu Shetty and others were present.

The best way to pay tribute to Dr V S Acharya is to complete the projects that he has proposed, to the logical end without any hesitation. I recall his public announcement just a week before his demise is to establish a full-fledged Post- Graduate Centre of Mangalore University in Udupi District. The Council of Ministers in Karnataka Government, Administrators of Udupi District and of Mangalore University including its Syndicate Members will make all out efforts to fulfill one of his last wishes. The established Centre may incorporate School of Economic Development and Research as proposed by Shri Anantha Kumar. Dr Acharya as the Minister of Higher Education, is always planning to increase the STUDENT ENROLLMENT RATIO by introducing post graduate courses in Government Colleges. I wish and hope his successor in the Government will vigorously carry out his plan of mission so that economically poor students especially girls will have ample opportunities to complete PG programs of their choice including Ph.D programs. He was interested to see that The GIANT and Unmanageable Bangalore University be split into 2 or 3 Universities but encountered oppositions in some quarters. If it is troublesome at the moment to implement, a separate University be established for the Districts of Kolar and Chikkaballapura as proposed by him during November 2011. As Higher Education Minister and a senior colleague in the Council of Ministers, he was instrumental for the proposals to establish AYURVEDA UNIVERSITY and UNIVERSITY OF NURSING AND ALLIED SCIENCES in Karnataka so also an Integrated University of Agricultural Sciences in Shimoga. These Temples of Education will be functioning from the academic year 2012-2013 including the Agricultural College in Brhmavara, Udupi in rememberance of the departed leader.
Knowing him during his boyhood days, I place on record that he worked for the people without hurting others and not looking for personal benefits but the welfare of society.
