Bengaluru, Nov 6: Kannada film industry has lost one of its most talented and intense character artistes, Harish Rai, who passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 52.

Udupi native Harish Rai, known for his powerful performances in films such as Om, Nalla, Bhugatha, Jodi Hakki, and more recently, the blockbuster hits KGF and KGF: Chapter 2, had been undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer for the past few years.

According to industry sources, the actor’s health had deteriorated in recent months, with his body weakening due to complications from the illness. Several members of the Kannada film fraternity, including superstar Yash, producer Umapathy Srinivas, and members of Darshan’s fan association, had extended financial and emotional support to him during his treatment.

Despite his strong will and continuous medical care, Harish Rai succumbed to his illness earlier today.

Harish Rai began his acting journey in the 1990s and went on to carve a niche as one of Sandalwood’s most intense on-screen villains. His performances often carried raw emotion and authenticity, earning him both critical acclaim and a strong fan following.

Beyond the silver screen, Harish Rai had faced challenges in his personal life as well. He had once even spent time in jail, a period he later recalled emotionally during interviews.

The actor is survived by his wife and two sons.
