Mangaluru: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy holds ‘Kavyaam Vhaalo-8’ poetry session

Mangaluru, Nov 8: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy organized a poetry session titled ‘Kavyaam Vhaalo–8’ at its auditorium on November 8. The event was presided over by Academy President Joachim Stany Alvares.

In his inaugural address, Alvares stated that the Academy has been recognizing individuals from various fields every month for their achievements while also providing a platform for poets to present their works and engage in literary dialogue. He emphasized that such poetry sessions aim to encourage poets and introduce them to society, creating a vibrant space for literary exchange.

Renowned playwright and film producer Henry D’Silva was felicitated on the occasion. Expressing his gratitude, he said, “The Academy has honoured me by recognizing my work. The success of my films has been possible because of your continued support,” and extended his best wishes to the organizers.

The chief guest, Krishna Kompadav, president of the Dakshina Kannada Kudubi Samaja Seva Sangha, expressed his appreciation to the Konkani Academy for organizing the Kudubi Folk Convention, which brought pride to the Kudubi community. He also lauded the Academy President for inspiring the youth of the Kudubi community through his dedicated efforts.

Eminent Konkani poet and head of the Poeticca literary group, Naveen Pereira, elaborated on the multiple dimensions of poetry creation and shared insights into the art form.

The poetry session was conducted by Irene Rebello. Poets Marcel D’Souza (Maccha Millar), Asunta D’Souza, Srujana Mathias, Chandrika Mallya, Flavia Albuquerque, Ravindra Naik Sannakkibettu, Praveen Tauro, Jeevan Crasta (Jeev Niddodi), and Lancy Sequeira Surathkal presented their poems.

Academy member Samarth Bhat compered the event. Members Ronald Crasta, Naveen Lobo, and Akshata Naik were present.
