Udupi-Chikmagalur Bypoll on March 18, Results on 21

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Feb 16: The much-awaited Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypoll will be held on March 18, and the results will be announced on March 21.

The Udupi-Chikmagalur seat was vacated by Sadananda Gowda after he became the chief minister in August 2011.

Since then, major political parties have been gearing up to contest for the seat, and various names of potential candidates have cropped up in BJP and Congress camps. While in the Congress, the name of Jayaprakash Hegde has been doing the rounds, it is Sunil Kumar and Udaya Kumar Shetty in the BJP.

The notifications for the bypoll would be issued on February 22.

February 29 will be the last date for filing nominations, and the verification will be done on March 1. The last date for withdrawal of candidates will be March 3, the election commission announced on Thursday February 16.

The bypoll is seen as prestige issue for the BJP, as the chief minister himself had occupied the seat, and the party would want to retain it. The Congress on the other hand is hopeful of a victory given the BJP's recent scams and controversies, and the fact that it lost badly in Bellary bypoll recently.

Along with Udupi-Chikmagalur, by-elections would be held for 11 Assembly constituencies in five states, of which seven are in Andhra Pradesh.

Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Kovur, Ghanpur (Station) (SC), Kollapur, Adilabad and Kamareddy in AP will go for bypolls.

The bypolls will also be held for assembly seats in Mansa (Gujarat), Piravom (Kerala), Sankaran Kovil (SC) (Tamil Nadu) and Athgarh (Odisha).

I call upon the Udupi voters to elect a competent and able candidate cutting across party lines. We need good administrators like VS Acharya and not like Oscar. Choose the best, sincere, hard working and uncorrupt and non communual but secular minded. candidate. Party doesnt matter. Those who can give returns to the expctation of electorate need to be elected.

I agree that there is good development at Udupi, roads are converted into four lane up to Manipal. This development is only for a stretch of about Total 10 K. M. This was planned during S. M. Krishna ministry. Planned n started by congress completed by Late V. S. Acharya of BJP. The credit goes to Ponnuraj n not to DVS. I hope even DVS n Ragupathi Bhat will agree with me. Jai HO Ponnuraj.

BJP will win this election as well. Most probable candidates would be Sunil Kumar or Unday Kumar Shetty. From Congress there are no strong candidates. Mr Hegde lost in Kundapur as well as Udupi loksabha. He needs to take rest instead of trying his luck again. Jai ho BJP!

bjp supporters have the habit of taking credit of good work done by others. As they metro rail is bjp's achievement and many more. Simple example if DVS has ability to get 4 lane road for udupi then what was the problem with him to solve the problem of aracanut growers.

We are always hearing development in Bangalore, now we are hearing developments in udupi. Then who will develop other places and entire region. Rural area deprived from the basic needs of the people.
We have to elect right persons, not person wasting time in assembly and parliment sessions and grabbing as much as wealth in their tenure.

The issue in every election is undoubtedly ‘development’ and not ‘corruption’ since every leader of every single party is corrupt. We may get only handful of clean politicians in the present day political scenario. I live in udupi for the past two decades and have been an eye witness for the developmental works that are taking place. I have no hesitation to say that the developments during BJP regime is overwhelming and evident and can be seen everywhere as you take a drive from kinnimulki-diana circle-service bus stand-manipal, adiudupi-manipal, brahmagiri junction to taluk office. The new DC office, upcoming RTO office, renovated town hall, beautification of Bhujanga park (adjacent to ajjarkad ground), improved drainage system, swarna II stage drinking water supply are some of the few on the list. I do not belong to any political party and always believe in constructive criticism of any misdeeds. The people have to be unbiased when we click ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ options below this comment. Let us not praise any political party just because the candidate/leader belongs to one particular community or religion. Whoever wins the elections, should work sincerely for the development of ‘namma udupi’. Let the best candidate win...!

Yes udupi developed a lot coz of BJP have good power in municipality and also in Karnataka state. But one thing i must to say communal mentality develop means what? one side develop with corruptions, another side communal riots, attacking minority places and disturb them. Insulting other religions and protect culprits with police support. Indian law is equality for every religion but here dividing them as per situation and political influence. "Developing" is a mantra of every political party person. So i request all voters please vote by a "person" not by any party and he should develop the places as well as maintained peace of harmony and respect all religions faith.

B.J.P - Fighting each other for CM post and Ministries.
    Cong - Sacrificing PM post.
Don’t forget Sonia and her children’s away from politics after the death of Rajiv Gandhi. When Congress starts losing ground and communal party starts dominating politics Congress requested her to take the leadership of party. Then what we seen is history.. Dinesh Poojary is 100% right. BJP is going to win 75% of total votes because only 25% people in Karnataka know the true colors of BJP (Rape, Illegal Mining, Scams, Land Denotifications, and lately Blue Films). People remain uneducated as schools are shutting down, Electricity and News papers are cut off in districts where BJP leaders are caught and exposed. Very soon we are going to have a Taliban in Karnataka while all BJP leaders will be holidaying in Mauritius with their ill-gotten wealth.

Your ministers made headline all over the country and all over the world by watching porn in the assembly when they were discussing indeed a very serious issue. One more important development work in the region:

Four-lane expressway between Bajpe airport and Athrady in Manipal.

One of my friends in Bangalore is the one of the contractors for this stretch. He told me that once this is completed MANIPAL - BAJPE travelling hours will be reduced to 20-25 minutes.

BJP is another name for 'Abhivruddiya harikaara'.

If NDA had come to power in 2009 elections our airport would have gone international, we would have got atleast 2 night trains to bangalore and mumbai, hassan-blr rail stretch would have got completed..etc..etc..

I fully agree with you both Sadananda Kamath, Udupi and Dinesh Poojary, Kundapura/Bengaluru. We have seen many good development works happened in our districts during our BJP state govt rule in last 4 years. whereas our double standard political parties like congress/JDS couldnt digest this development works done by BJP state govt and were always busy in pulling the legs of the state govt with some or the other issues. So if we look overall BJP is still much better when campare to other political parties. So it's better to vote for BJP. Even in the coming Udupi-Chikmangalur MP bypoll election BJP has the good chance of winning. So Jai ho BJP.

Good news. I am happy that we will have oneida minister at centre. It's non other than Shriman Jaya Prakash Hegde. Who has worked for Udupi Chickmanglore constituency despite not in power. National highway NH 66 stretch from Surathkal to Kundapur is bcz of his efforts. Sitting MP DVS does nothing for the people over here not even visited them. He was from Putthur n bothered to know problems of his constituency. On the contrary people used to go to Hegde with their problem n he was ready with solutions. After the elections Hegde will be a minister at central govt and that will be boom for Udupi Chickmanglore public.

I know Mr. Hegde since 1983 and he is well educated lawyer. He knows the grassroot level problems n necessities of people of this constituency. He is loved n admired by all cast n communities. He has a clean image n knows how borrow funds from administration for different project. Since last 30 yrs he has provided drinking water, shelter, roads n bridges. Next to my own old house he built 2 concrete bridges connecting to island. He will be Congress candidate n Sonia is very keen on having clean n able Hegde at centre. Best of luck BJP You need my prayers to save at least deposit.

This by election of parliment is forced by BJP in the expense of Tax Payers.Second thing is BJP has no ciumstantial edge over Congress party instead BJP's morale is all time low.Third factor is Yeddy and gang certainly use this opportunity to show the strength and to teach a lesson to back biters including DVS.Fourth important factor is EDDY era not exisits in UDUPI as well as whole Karnataka.More importantly, BJP has lot in it's shoulder to pacipy it's voters of it's follies.BJP showed to it's voters that it is more corrupt, irresponsible and communal party. As Dinesh sang the song of having 75% votes in favor of BJP is silly and immatured calculation.nder the circumstances Candidates also may play role in winning the UDUPI by election.Any way UDUPI VOTERS has a golden opportunity to teach a lesson and it's place.........

Udupi-Chikmangalur MP seat is hot because it was represented by honorable chief minister of Karnataka. So definitely people will show respect to DVS and vote for BJP. Therefore BJP candidate will win with 75% of total votes..

Congress people can not win elections just because of rave party in udupi and 2 BJP ministers watching video clips. People vote for party which gave them bread and butter...

    Badavara bandhu BJP ge jayavagali.

I would like to say ALL THE BEST for congress party and their supporters...
