Mangalore, Feb 18: Darshan B M, second year journalism student of Alva’s College, Moodbidri, was selected for the  www.ekanasu.com annual Student Award for the year 2010–11. It is the first Kannada e-paper in the city.

The various articles and columns authored by Darshan, a native of Shimoga, during 2010–11 qualified him for the award.

It is for the first time that a Kannada e-paper has attempted to encourage students to pen their stories.

The e-paper had set three stages to qualify for the award and Darshan’s special reports, articles, poetry, interviews, and columns helped him clear all.

It was an attempt for the first time by www.ekanasu.com to encourage students in order to improve their reading skills and pen their stories. Students from various universities across Karnataka including Mangalore University, Mysore University, Shimoga University, Gulbarga University, and NITK Suratkal participated in the competitions.

The award is for articles and columns published in www.ekanasu.com over a year.  The readers’ comments, jurors’ opinions, and points awarded by team www.ekanasu.com led to the selection of the winner.

“The award comprises cash, citation letter, memento, and public honour.  The award will be conferred during the annual day celebration of www.ekanasu.com,” informed editor Hareesh K Adoor.
