Mangaluru, Nov 21: The department of computer applications of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor, inaugurated the 14th edition of its national level IT fest — ‘Josiyana 14.0’, with the theme ‘Where Technology Comes Alive’ at the Kalam Auditorium on Friday, November 21.
The fest witnessed the participation of students from across the nation, bringing together innovation, competition, and collaboration, marking yet another milestone in the institution’s academic and technological journey.

Dhyanaja Alva A, software engineer II at Microsoft and proud alumnus of SJEC, inaugurated the event and delivered an impactful address. Speaking to budding technologists, he said, “I never imagined returning here as a chief guest after joining Microsoft. What matters most is not having everything figured out, but showing up every day with curiosity and consistency. Small steps — projects, labs, experiments add up and shape your future.”
Encouraging participants to embrace challenges and opportunities during the fest, he added, “These events build your confidence, spark ideas, and form lifelong friendships. Participate fully and enjoy the experience.”
Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director, SJEC, presided over the programme. In his address, he reflected on the evolving landscape of technology and the relevance of such platforms. “Josiyana has always encouraged students to explore beyond textbooks. Today’s world belongs to those who innovate, collaborate, and think boldly. Be curious, be consistent, and be future-ready.” He appreciated the organising team and volunteers for their meticulous planning and acknowledged the participation of over 30 colleges from across the country.
Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, SJEC, expressed pride over the legacy of the fest and the achievements of former and current students. “Reaching the 14th edition of Josiyana is a remarkable legacy. Our students have built operating systems, processors, and advanced AI models. Platforms like this enable them to compete, challenge themselves, and discover new possibilities.”
The inaugural also featured the reveal of the winners’ trophies, symbolising excellence and competitiveness. The reveal marked the official start of the multi-event fest consisting of coding challenges, design events, tech quizzes, gaming segments, and creative competitions.
Dr Hareesh B, HOD of MCA, delivered the welcome address, while Nishmitha J, convener, expressed the vote of thanks. Sunith Kumar T served as co-convener.
More than just a series of events, Josiyana 14.0 stands as a celebration of technology, creativity, and limitless potential — where learning meets innovation, and ideas turn into impact.
